What the list actually asked for
Ossett, kitchen fit out
Thirty two pieces off five sheets
A joiner sent the list for a whole kitchen in 18mm birch on the Tuesday afternoon. Four different lengths of the same width, and it wanted to come off as few sheets as we could manage. We nested it onto five, wrote the sheet number on every piece, and it went out Wednesday morning.
Shopfitter, sixty doors
One batch, so the faces match
Veneer is the thing people forget. Sixty doors cut from two batches will not match once they are hung side by side, and there is no fixing it afterwards. We held the run back a day and cut the lot from one.
Display maker, forty panels
Film left on, because they travel
Acrylic gets scratched in a van long before it reaches the job. The film stays on both faces until it is fitted, which costs us nothing and saves an argument about who marked it.
Spray shop, edges machined
Ten minutes here, a day saved there
These were going straight onto a spray line, so every edge came off the router rather than the saw. Nothing needed filling and nothing needed sanding. Ten minutes on our machine took a day out of theirs.
What we cut
Every list is different, so every list is priced on its own
There is no price list because no two cutting lists are the same. What there is instead is a real number, back the same working day.
Birch and hardwood ply
Birch, poplar and hardwood faced, 4mm through to 25mm. Cut square to the millimetre, or to a shape if you send a drawing.
Priced by the sheet, with the offcut taken off
MDF and moisture resistant
Standard, moisture resistant and fire rated, 6mm through to 30mm. Machined edges if it is going to be painted.
Priced by area, thickness makes the difference
Acrylic and polycarbonate
Clear, opal and coloured, plus polycarbonate where it might get hit. Polished edges and drilled holes if you ask.
Priced by size, film left on for the journey
Edging and drilling
Iron on or glued banding in oak, walnut and white, and holes drilled to your setting out. Saves you a job at the other end.

How a job actually goes

Send the list, however it is written
On a spreadsheet, on the back of a job sheet, or read down the phone. We type it up and send it back for you to check before anything is cut.

You get a real price, not a range
One number, with what it includes written underneath it. If something about the job would change that number, we say so before you agree to anything.

The list checked against the sheet
Whether it all fits, how many sheets it takes and which way the grain runs. Free, and it is where most of the mistakes get caught.

Made here, and you know when
Nothing goes out to another yard, so the day we give you is one we control. If it slips you hear it from us first rather than finding out on the day.

You are dealing with us, start to finish
There is no sales team and no account manager. You ring, we answer, and the same person prices the list, cuts it and stacks it on the counter. That is slower to scale and a lot harder to get wrong.

Before you ask
What people ask before they send a list
Can I just send a spreadsheet?
Yes, and it is the quickest way. Any format we can open. If the columns are not obvious we will ring and check rather than guess, because a guessed width is a wasted sheet.
What if the pieces do not fit the sheet?
We tell you before we cut, not after. There is usually a way round it: turning a piece so the grain runs the other way, or splitting one panel with a joint where it will not show. You get the options, not a bill for a sheet you were not expecting.
Do you deliver, or is it collection only?
Both. Our own van covers about thirty miles and goes out most days. Anything further goes on a pallet, but sheet material travels badly and we would rather you knew that before you paid for it.
How long from sending the list to collecting?
Same day if it is in before eleven and the material is on the rack. Bigger runs are next day. If you are working to a date, say so with the list and we will tell you straight whether it is on.
How accurate is the cutting?
Half a millimetre either way on the panel saw, which is about right for anything that has to fit an opening. If you need tighter than that, say so and we will tell you honestly whether we can hold it.
